The iPhone Duo made me break my biggest rule as a reviewer

I normally avoid watching reviews before testing a device myself, but I made an exception for Apple's first foldable.

I don’t typically read or watch reviews of devices I plan on reviewing myself. I see headlines and random hot takes on social media, of course, but I’ve always tried to avoid any spoilers so I can form my own opinion.

The iPhone Duo, however, is different. It’s a totally new product category for Apple, and one I’ve had a vested interest in for years. I thoroughly enjoy using foldable phones, a feeling that was only reinforced by Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8.

So, I told myself I could read or watch one review before I get my phone (Hopefully Friday!).

I went with Marques Brownlee’s iPhone Duo Review, posted to his YouTube channel, and it did not disappoint. If you only watch one review, make it this one.

He did a masterful job of walking potential foldable noobies through new features and what to care about, while also addressing what long-time foldable users would want to know.

I won’t spoil the whole thing for you, but Apple seems to have nailed the design and battery life (even if it is a little heavy), and the camera is surprisingly passable with room for improvement, but the software has some quirks and third-party apps need updated ASAP. Oh, and Face ID is sorely missed.

Other than battery life being exceptional, there weren’t any huge surprises. It’s a first-generation product. WatchOS looks and works nothing like it did on the first Apple Watch, same goes for iPadOS on the iPad.

And it sure seems like it’s going to be one hell of a first-gen product.

I can’t wait to get one in my hands.
