Apple's iPhone Duo photos look great, but I'm still nervous about the camera
No telephoto camera has me nervous af
Apple on Thursday shared six photos on Instagram, each one captured with the iPhone Duo (embedded at the bottom of the post). Each one is taken in typical Apple promo fashion: lots of contrasting colors, in unique lighting and exotic locations. You know the look.
There's nothing wrong with that, but I'd wager most of us will never take pics like these with a phone. My camera roll is pictures of my family, my dogs and random plates of food.
My biggest concern about the Duo isn't battery life – I have MagSafe chargers all over the place and am a big believer in practicing ABC (Always Be Charging) – it's the camera performance. I use the telephoto camera on whatever phone I'm carrying a lot. I mean, a lot.
I severely missed it when I reviewed the Motorola Razr+ earlier this year. And the fact that the Duo is limited to 2x "optical-quality" and not a true telephoto camera is surely going to be frustrating.
Nonetheless, these photos do look good. I just hope the regular camera performance makes up for the number of really crappy zoomed in photos I'm about to be taking.
