How to install the iOS 27 developer beta
If you like living on the edge, that is
It’s only been roughly 48 hours since Apple announced iOS 27 (and the rest of the x27 operating systems for iPad, Mac, etc.), and I didn’t do a good job at following my own advice.
I installed iPadOS 27 on my iPad Pro (M4) yesterday, followed by my iPad mini (7th gen.), and as I type this very post it’s preparing to install on my MacBook Neo.
I messed around with Siri AI for a few minutes earlier today and I was fairly impressed by its ability to find information about upcoming trips in my email and messages before it’d even had a chance to fully index my device and all of the information it contains.
If you’re ready to take the plunge (I still advise against doing so), here’s how you can install the latest iOS 27 developer beta on your iPhone (or any other Apple device you own):
- Back up your iPhone, preferably to your computer
- Open the Settings app, go to General > Software Update
- Select Beta Updates > iOS 27 Developer Beta
- Tap the back arrow and give it a second or two for your phone to find the update
- Tap Update Now and let the update do its thing
After the update is installed, do yourself a favor and get on the Siri AI waitlist in Settings > Siri. It took about 12 hours before I was granted access.
