Hey Google Photos, help me decide what to wear

Wait, what?

Google on Tuesday announced the June Android Drop, which includes several new features coming to Pixel and Android phones. The Personal Safety app is making some of its features, like crash detection, available to kids under 13, a new fake call detection feature will alert you when a contact's number is being spoofed, and Android's Quick Share feature is expanding its AirDrop compatibility to more phones.

Two new features, however, are focused on helping you decide what to wear. The first feature mentioned is the ability to use Android's Circle to Search feature to find an entire outfit. Cool, but also couldn't it already do that? If not, that's lame.

It's another wardrobe feature that I can't decide if I'm scared or intrigued by. This summer, users will start to see a new Google Photos wardrobe tool that will analyze your photo library, keep a collection of what you're wearing in the pictures on your library, and then help you mix and match your outfits to decide what to wear. When you pick an outfit, it appears Google Photos will show you yourself wearing that 'fit.

WHAT!?

My initial thought was that's creepy. But the more I think about it, the more it makes sense as a natural extension of the information contained in photos many already store on Google's servers. I'm not sure if I'm happy about it, but... this is cool? I think it's cool. If it works, of course.

I know I get stuck in wearing the same thing, over and over. Not because I don't have any clothes – I probably have more stuff hanging in my closet than my wife – but because I'm a creature of habit and go to the same exact spot in my closet to grab a shirt every morning. Having a way to visualize what I've worn and what I could wear by doing nothing more than what I already do – take photos – takes away a friction point of curating your wardrobe.

Then again, I'd actually need to take a photo of myself every day after getting dressed for this to be helpful. Looking through my camera roll right now, I'm mainly only in photos during special events where I have to dress up. Upon further inspection, yep, I wear the same thing over and over then too.

There are some caveats, because of course there are. You'll need to have Face Groups enabled in Google Photos and select which face is yours, and your library will need to have over 1,000 pictures with you in them, or if you have an AI Pro/Ultra plan, you don't need to worry about the 1,000 picture requirement.

I don't think I have 1,000 photos in my library (I've moved them all over to Immich and iCloud Photos), but I do have an AI Pro plan. So, I plan on giving this a try whenever it rolls out.

What do you think? Something you want to use? Or is it too creepy?
